I’ve Finally Hit the Wall!
I know, I know. You’re itching to travel. That’s what you do for pleasure and for fun, and not being able to do your “thing” is making you crazy.
Well, it’s driving me up the wall, too.
Furthermore, by the time everything is back to . . . well . . . to normal, I’m worried about what “normal” will look like.
For instance, will the brain trust at Amtrak go back to daily trains on the long-distance routes?
And will they give up on the so-called “contemporary dining” and allow us to sit four-to-a-table in the dining car and meet fellow passengers while we partake of food prepared on board?
The truth: It’s getting to the point that I don’t give a damn. Once I’ve had my shots . . . even if trains are still running only three times a week . . . even if dinner still comes in a cardboard box . . . if Amtrak will let me take off the damn mask in my roomette . . . and if the Brits and the French and the Canadians will let me in, I’m ready to book!
Whaddaya think? Early October maybe . . . assuming my wife says it’s OK?
March 6 I caved. Had my 2nd shot two weeks ago, couldn’t hold back any longer, and booked a cross country trip on Amtrak for July. Except for last summer, I’ve don’t this for 31 years, but in coach. This time it will be in sleepers to feel safer. Now I’ll see what the situation is by summer.
My second shot is coming up in this next week. Like you, I’m chomping at the bit . . . can’t wait to get off this island and onto an Amtrak train. And I don/t much care which train or where it’s going!
I would love to travel again, but who knows when that can happen with a normal feel to it. My health is failing. This pandemic might outlive me.
I am determined to squeeze one more good long trip out of my tired old bones. If I can, you can, too!
I’ve had so many travel plans disrupted, reservations needing to be cancelled, so many credits piling up in lieu of refunds, and now the president is considering further limiting interstate travel due to the virus variants. I think I am getting depressed!
I totally understand how you’re feeling Jim! I’ve been planning trips for a year, and I’ve gone no where as well! There’s no telling how long this will last…Good luck.
