This Needs Saying!

There are some of you out there who don’t like it when I occasionally delve into a topic that may be considered “political”. I get that. And I try not to do it very often and I try to be calm and respectful to opposing views when I do.

But mere words cannot adequately describe the reaction I had to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ latest stunt: luring Venezuelan migrants—mostly women and children—aboard two chartered airplanes with promises of food, shelter and good jobs, and flying them to the mostly high-tone resort island of Martha’s Vineyard off the coast of Massachusetts. And simply dumping them there.

I suppose DeSantis is enjoying the thought of all those liberal high-brow New Englanders having to deal with all those crying babies.

But what a cynical, heartless, shitty thing to do! This guy, who wants to be president of our country, used people already in near-desperate circumstances as mere props to promote his personal political ambitions.

What have we come to . . . that this loathsome human being, Desantis, could actually be the leading contender for the Republican Party’s nominee for president of our country?

Seriously, all you Republicans out there . . . First Trump and now DeSantis? These are the guys you want as your standard bearer? Whatever happened to the Grand Old Party?  More to the point, whatever happened to Republican politicians who espoused the principles of the GOP, but were men of character: Bob Dole and Barry Goldwater and John McCain and Nelson Rockefeller and Tom Dewey, for example. Can you imagine one of those men— any one of them—pulling a stunt like that?

According to the latest news, DeSantis and other Florida officials have been slapped with a class-action lawsuit as the result of this incident.

To which I say, “Good! And make the cynical, heartless S.O.B. pay with his personal funds
