Well, Gee … SOMEBODY’s Got To Pay!

The Union Pacific Railroad has a partnership agreement with Ferromex, the largest private railroad in Mexico.

Freight cars are loaded in Mexico and hauled to the U.S. border by Ferromex, where the train is taken over by Union Pacific. From there it goes to its assigned destination. Union Pacific has no control over the rail cars, or what’s in them, until the train crosses into the U.S. and is turned over to UP by our customs officials.

But here’s the problem: On 42 occasions, the customs people have found drugs in false compartments in freight cars. Since somebody’s got to be blamed, our esteemed Customs and Border Protection people picked Union Pacific and the railroad is now facing fines and penalties totaling thirty-eight million dollars!

UP has asked a federal judge to set aside the penalties and the case is pending.

Customs and Border Protection … Say, aren’t these the same people who are working on that 2,000-mile-long fence??
