It Really Is a Small World After All.

Most of the media attention – and quite properly so – is falling on Superstorm Sandy, which is now moving up along the East Coast.

We here in Hawaii had our own nature-related scare the other day when an earthquake off of British Columbia generated a tidal wave that threatened our islands. As it turned out, there was a bit of a surge here in Maui in Kahului harbor, but no damage has been reported.

This past Saturday evening, when the first alert was sounded, a friend of ours was relaxing with his family in front of the TV when the phone rang. It was his sister, who excitedly informed him of the tsunami warning and scolded him for being unaware of the threat.

Here’s the thing that just seems kind of weird to me: His sister lives in Pakistan.
