Another Cross-Country Amtrak Journey Coming Up.

I’ll be leaving tomorrow for the annual Fall meeting of NARP, the National Association of Railroad Passengers. This meeting will be in Milwaukee which, happily for me, is on the route of Amtrak’s Empire Builder.

So I will leave here tomorrow afternoon on a flight to Seattle aboard Hawaiian Airlines. The next leg is one of the Amtrak Cascades to Portland, Oregon. I’ve ridden the Empire Builder out of Seattle 8 or 10 times, but it’s probably been ten years since I originated in Portland, so that’s where I’ll begin the two-night journey to Milwaukee.

The NARP meetings will be held there over three days – Friday through Sunday of next week – and I’ll provide reports through posts here as often as I can manage.

From Milwaukee, I’m heading to Chicago where I’ll catch the City of New Orleans for the overnight ride down to the Crescent City.

With any luck, I’ll manage another fabulous dinner at Irene’s followed by an evening of great music at the Palm Court Jazz Club.

The last of my rail segments will be the Sunset Limited from New Orleans back to Los Angeles. As time and opportunity permit, I’ll report as much as I can about all of the above in this space.
