They Are Out There and They Are Among Us
I recently received an email that was supposedly sent by an American soldier in Afghanistan telling how Barak Obama refused to shake hands with some of our troops on his recent visit there.
To check on the email’s authenticity, I went to snopes.com and discovered, as I suspected, that it is a fake.
Furthermore, snopes lists more than 40 other fake emails, all intended to promote untruths about Obama, including …
* Foreign financiers are contributing most of the money to Obama’s campaign.
* Obama wasn’t born in this country and is therefore ineligible to be president.
* The Obama campaign is being funded by Venezuela dictator Hugo Chavez.
And my personal favorite …
* Obama has been endorsed for president by the Ku Klux Klan.
Now, seriously, what kind of an idiot would believe that??
If you would like to review all of these scurrilous, not to mention ridiculous, emails, go to

and type “Obama” into the blank space. I warn you: you will come away angry and depressed at the same time.
Let us all hope that, on election day, the vast majority of Americans will vote thoughtfully and intelligently after careful assessment of each candidate’s position of the serious issues facing this country.
Please tell me that is not too much to hope for.
Jim, another of these e-mails I’ve seen come around a couple of times purports that more US military members were killed during the Carter and Clinton administrations than have been killed during the current one. One of the guys I work with, a retired Marine colonel, took the time to click on the link provided at the bottom of the e-mail and found that the numbers cited in the text were in no way what is found at the FAS web site. He (and I) were both outraged at this.
There ought to be a name for this internet-enabled crap. It isn’t spam, it’s something else that needs a name of its own. I have several candidates but will respect that fact that you run a family blog.
BTW, I no longer use the proper name of the current president.
